Located on Bowen Island, this sprawling family retreat sits atop an extraordinary, rocky cliff, just above the water. Originally built in the 1950’s, the home has undergone three previous renovations, and required a little imagination in working with the original bones of the structure, as well as resolving the more current construction requirements.
Stripping the home down to the essentials and re-working the floor plan allowed for the space to open up and created a much appreciated flow to the main areas. In turn, the spectacular views were given dominance, particularly in the main spaces, with a true appreciation for the closeness and abundance of nature. All the while, bedrooms and additional spaces were given an air of coziness.
An elevated surf shack, this home is pleasant and calming escape from bustling city life, particularly with its spare material palette of oak, concrete, and Douglas fir plywood.
Simple white walls and black hardware added contrast, while retaining a pleasant form of minimalism.
